Job Description

The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the Office places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants in criminal prosecution. Moreover, the Office aims to balance the need to seek appropriate redress for certain crimes while recognizing circumstances when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day.

The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a Chief of its Detective Investigators Unit. This is a sworn police officer position requiring certification in the NYS DCJS Police registry. In this position, Chief of Detective Investigators is charged with leading all investigative personnel and units, oversees security protocols, and ensures investigative operations support the District Attorney’s prosecutorial mission. The Chief advises executive leadership on law enforcement strategy, resource deployment, and interagency coordination while upholding professionalism, integrity, and accountability. This role also leads threat assessment and mitigation, ensuring credible threats are investigated and addressed with coordinated protective and intelligence strategies, as well as overseeing internal security, at the direction of the Bronx District Attorney and her Chief Assistant District Attorney.

Candidates for this esteemed position are expected to possess significant professional experience, a proven track record of successful case resolutions, and a commitment to ethical standards and continuous professional development.

  • Provide executive leadership and oversee all investigative activities, including authorizing search warrants, supervising surveillance, managing evidence, interviewing witnesses, executing arrests, and ensuring compliance with legal standards and prosecutorial goals.
  • Lead and coordinate specialized investigative units, including counterterrorism and cybercrime units, driving innovation, resource allocation, and interdepartmental collaboration to enhance investigative effectiveness and case outcomes.
  • Oversee threat assessment, ensuring all credible threats to executives, prosecutors, and witnesses are promptly identified, investigated, and mitigated in coordination with law enforcement agencies.
  • Manage the collection, analysis, and dissemination of protective intelligence from open-source and law enforcement channels to support proactive threat mitigation. Ensure preparedness for rapid deployment in response to active threats or critical incidents.
  • Manage unit’s personnel, including recruitment, training, evaluating performance, and overseeing professional development. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Serve as the main decision-maker for complex undercover operations. Provide strategic advice and direction to support the safety and success of these operations.
  • Direct, monitor, and evaluate complex investigations to ensure they meet office priorities and investigative standards.
  • Lead special projects and strategic initiatives as directed by executive leadership, contributing to BXDA’s long-term operational planning and policy development.
  • Maintain flexibility to manage operational demands beyond standard hours, ensuring continuous unit readiness and responsiveness.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement databases and strong technical computer skills.
