Orlando Health, Inc. is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead nursing and patient care services across the hospital. The CNO will drive strategic direction, clinical quality, and a high-performing nursing workforce, anchored in Magnet principles and evidence-based practice.

The role requires executive leadership, collaboration with physicians and quality teams, and accountability for patient safety, outcomes, and experience within a complex healthcare system in Orlando.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility in the applicable state.
  • Progressive nursing leadership experience in an acute care hospital or complex healthcare system at senior or executive level.
  • Experience working in a Magnet-designated organization and/or leading Magnet designation or redesignation strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade performance, high-reliability practices, nursing-sensitive indicators, and other national quality and safety measures preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with physicians, executive leaders, quality teams, and interdisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Strong financial, operational, strategic planning, and workforce management capabilities.
  • Executive presence with exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing and patient care services, ensuring safe, high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
  • Establishes and advances the vision for nursing practice, professional development, shared governance, clinical excellence, and the patient care delivery model.
  • Partner with physician, quality, and executive leaders to improve clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience, regulatory performance, and nursing-sensitive outcomes.
  • Leads efforts to achieve Magnet recognition or Magnet-level nursing excellence, including professional practice and engagement.
  • Drives improvement in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade performance and other nationally recognized quality and safety measures.
  • Promotes a culture of high reliability, accountability, transparency, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Uses data to establish priorities, measure performance, and drive sustainable outcomes.
  • Develops strategies to recruit, retain, engage, recognize, and develop a high-performing nursing workforce.
  • Ensures appropriate nursing staffing, skill mix, resource allocation, and workforce planning to support safety and growth.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with physicians, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to advance priorities.
  • Oversees nursing budgets, staffing plans, organizational structure, technology, and resources with financial stewardship.
  • Ensures nursing practices comply with standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Represents nursing on hospital and system leadership councils and advocates for nursing within the organization and community.

Position Summary

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) serves as the senior nursing executive for the assigned hospital and provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for nursing and patient care services. The CNO is accountable for advancing a culture of nursing excellence, quality, patient safety, clinical outcomes, and exceptional patient experience while ensuring alignment with Orlando Health's mission, values, and strategic priorities.

In partnership with hospital and system leadership, physicians, and quality leaders, the CNO establishes the vision and strategic direction for nursing practice and leads initiatives that improve clinical and organizational performance. The CNO champions Magnet principles and recognition, Leapfrog performance, high reliability, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement, while creating an environment that attracts, develops, engages, and retains an exceptional nursing workforce.
