American Fork City is seeking an experienced City Attorney to serve as the city's chief legal advisor and partner to City leadership. This role leads the legal function, manages litigation, oversees outside counsel, and helps departments find lawful, practical solutions to operational challenges.

The ideal candidate will have a J.D. from an ABA-accredited school, Utah bar license, and 6+ years of relevant experience, with strong communication and leadership skills to support governance and

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in Utah and good standing with the Utah State Bar.
• At least six years of progressively responsible legal experience.
• Experience advising organizational leadership and drafting or reviewing contracts, ordinances, or resolutions.

Responsibilities

• Advise City leadership with strategic legal guidance on operations, policy, and governance.
• Manage civil litigation, claims, negotiations, and other contested matters while identifying risk.
• Provide legal counsel on land use, zoning, development, and infrastructure matters affecting growth.
• Ensure compliance with Open Meetings Act, GRAMA, immunity, procurement, and employment laws.
• Draft, review, and interpret ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and interlocal agreements.
• Lead the in-house legal team, set workflows, priorities, and service standards.
