Sr. Director, Medical Services
Physician Wellbeing Coach

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Strategy & Quality
  • Contribute to COPC's organizational strategy as the senior clinical voice, ensuring decisions reflect a commitment to high-quality, efficient patient care.
  • Define and lead a disciplined approach to care redesign — identifying opportunities to improve outcomes, reduce waste, and eliminate unnecessary cost.
  • Develop systems to measure resource utilization and clinical outcomes across COPC’s ambulatory sites and translate findings into actionable improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to develop, implement, and continuously improve patient-focused care protocols and policies.
  • Offer guidance on the development and revision of clinical policies and procedures and ensure successful implementation across COPC sites.
Value-Based Care & Population Health
  • Build organizational proficiency in population health management, equipping practices to understand and manage patient panels in a value-driven way.
  • Collaborate with payer partners through regular joint operating meetings, driving quality gap closure initiatives and advocating for COPC patients and providers.
  • Set annual quality and expense reduction targets for clinical programs; regularly review cost, utilization, and outcomes data to track progress.
  • Participate in Joint Operating Committees with insurance plans and strategic partners.
Physician Leadership & Wellbeing
  • Provide direct leadership, support, and accountability for COPC's medical directors, serving as their primary executive partner.
  • Ensure physician compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as standards set by the Joint Commission and other governing bodies.
  • Lead efforts to improve physician satisfaction and reduce burnout — driving cross-functional collaboration to identify and eliminate administrative barriers, and championing process and technology solutions that restore time and focus to patient care.
  • Conduct clinical performance reviews for prospective physicians and shareholder candidates.
  • Serve as the primary executive point of contact for physician clinical performance and behavioral concerns — working with medical directors, HR, and legal counsel as appropriate to investigate, document, and resolve issues in a manner that is fair, consistent, and protective of COPC's patients, physicians, and culture.
  • Facilitate initiatives to improve both physician and patient satisfaction across COPC sites.
Governance & External Affairs
  • Serve as a non-voting member of the COPC Board of Directors, presenting regularly on clinical quality performance and strategic opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Board on quality metrics, improvement priorities, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Identify market trends and emerging opportunities, contributing to business development efforts and presenting findings to the Board as appropriate.
  • Serve on COPC committees as needed, including the Compensation, Compliance, Credentialing, Peer Review, and Physician Behavior Committees.
  • Represent COPC as the public-facing clinical spokesperson for media and community matters of clinical significance.
  • Engage with external organizations to advocate for primary care at the local and national level.
QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education, Licensures & Certifications

  • Required: Minimum 5 years of experience as a practicing physician in an outpatient setting
  • Required: Minimum 5 years of experience as a Medical Director or similar leadership role in a Primary Care or related healthcare setting
  • Required: Current medical licensure
  • Required: Current Board Certification
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field

B. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in collaboration, teamwork, and problem-solving to achieve goals with an inclusive leadership style and ability to inspire confidence and create trust.
  • Documented success in developing positive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including community leaders, local health systems and strategic partners.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and strategic direction of COPC.
  • Proven leadership in developing, implementing, and supporting programs for both internal and external stakeholders; ability to drive organizational change.
  • Strong aptitude with electronic health record systems; Epic experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with budgeting and financial performance; organizational analysis and structure; and quality metrics, including HEDIS.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience communicating and presenting to large groups both in writing and verbally.
  • Extensive familiarity with relevant health care legislation and standards.
  • Possesses a high level of personal and professional ethics and integrity.
