Job summary

Four Rivers Community Health Center seeks a Chief Medical Officer to provide clinical leadership, medical oversight, and guidance across programs. The CMO will collaborate with APP providers, set standards of care, oversee policies, and support quality improvement.

You will engage with executive leadership on budgeting, strategic planning, and community health initiatives, maintain licensure, and represent the center to partners and accrediting bodies.

Qualifications

  • Board certification in a primary care specialty or subspecialty.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school with completion of residency.
  • Current medical license and DEA/BNDD registrations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and medical oversight for health center programs and services.
  • Serve as collaborating physician for APPs including NPs and PAs.
  • Promote evidence-based standards of care across clinical operations.
  • Oversee development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Lead clinical quality improvement, patient safety, peer review, and risk-reduction activities.
  • Monitor clinical quality measures and support corrective action plans.
  • Support provider recruitment, onboarding, orientation, retention, and development.
  • Represent the health center with hospitals, specialists, and community partners.
  • Maintain active clinical practice and keep licensure, certifications current.

Chief Medical Officer Duties:

Provide clinical leadership and medical oversight for health center programs and services

Serve as collaborating physician for mid-level practitioners including nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Promote consistent, evidence-based standards of care across clinical operations.

Oversee the development, review, and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and procedures.

Lead clinical quality improvement, patient safety, peer review, and risk-reduction activities in collaboration with organizational leadership.

Monitor clinical quality measures and support corrective action plans when opportunities for improvement are identified.

Support provider recruitment, onboarding, orientation, retention, and ongoing professional development.

Provide consultation, guidance, and support to physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinical team members.

Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among medical, dental, behavioral health, nursing, pharmacy, and administrative teams, as applicable.

Ensure clinical practices support applicable federal and state requirements, HRSA Health Center Program requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.

Serve as a clinical advisor to executive leadership and provide medical input for strategic planning, program development, budgeting, and operational decisions.

Review and respond to significant clinical incidents, patient safety concerns, complaints involving clinical care, and adverse outcomes in coordination with appropriate leadership.

Support emergency preparedness, infection prevention, medication safety, and population health initiatives.

Represent the health center with hospitals, specialists, community partners, professional organizations, and other external stakeholders as assigned.

Chair or actively participate in medical staff, quality, compliance, and other committees as assigned.

Maintain an active clinical practice as assigned and remain current with professional standards, licensure, certifications, and continuing medical education requirements.

Support the Health Center’s mission, vision, and values through active participation in organizational initiatives, community-related events, outreach activities, and other efforts that promote access to care and support the communities served.

Perform other clinical leadership duties consistent with the responsibilities of the Chief Medical Officer and the needs of the health center.

Diagnose/Treat diseases/disorders and make appropriate dispositions.

Prescribe, dispense, and administer medications.

Maintain records of medical history and treatment utilizing the problem-oriented medical record.

Refer patients for specialty care as needed.

Provide information and education to patient and family members regarding diagnosis, treatment, prevention and safety in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

Receive abnormal test results after working hours (during on-call coverage).

Provide emergency treatment as needed.

Initiate / continue medical regimens.

Provide follow-up and treatment as needed.

Contribute professional medical expertise to educational activities in health center.

Provide consultation to nurse practitioners / physician assistants as needed.

Provide Medical Student / Resident Education as assigned.

Participate in collaborative treatment with other clinicians and health professionals.

Assist in the development of in-service training and orientation activities regarding patient care.

Contribute professional medical expertise to evaluative activities in health center.

Provide input on procedures/activities impacting services or schedule.

Adhere to health center policy and procedures.

Participate in quality assurance activities including periodic chart review.

Participate in community outreach activities.

Attend at least 66% of monthly staff conferences.

Required:

Board Certification
