Job summary

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated seeks an experienced General Counsel to guide the organization’s legal strategy. You will advise the CEO, Board of Directors, and committees on governance, regulatory matters, contracts, and risk management while protecting the sorority’s tax-exempt status and assets.

Lead a small team, oversee outside counsel, develop policies, and ensure compliance across national and international activities.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
Active bar membership in good standing and eligibility to practice.
Experience advising senior executives, boards, and committees.

Responsibilities

Advise CEO, Board of Directors, and committees on legal, regulatory, and strategic matters.
Identify and mitigate legal risks affecting the organization.
Develop practical legal strategies supporting mission, assets, and governance.
Serve as trusted advisor on sensitive matters and oversee governance processes.
Manage contracts, vendor agreements, and compliance with nonprofit laws and tax-exemption obligations.
Oversee outside counsel and manage legal budget; monitor regulatory inquiries and investigations.
Develop templates, policies, and training materials for governance, ethics, and risk management.
