Virginia Union University invites nominations and applications for the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the President, the CFO will oversee and manage the financial operations of the University and play a critical role in planning and executing the organization’s growth and evolution. This is an excellent opportunity for an innovative and disciplined finance manager with a proven record of creative problem-solving and strengthening infrastructure in a mission-driven organization.

About Virginia Union University

Located in Richmond, Virginia, VUU has achieved record enrollment growth, increased revenue and net assets, and reduced long-term debt. Fundraising has increased by 350% over pre-pandemic levels. Under Dr. Hakim Lucas, VUU ranks #39 among HBCUs and has improved in ranking for seven consecutive years. The university’s enrollment surged to 2,068 students for the 2023-2024 academic year, an 11% increase from 2022.

Position Overview

The CFO will provide leadership and oversight of VUU's Finance functions, including accounting, auxiliary services, payroll, student accounts, procurement, control, and budgeting. The role involves enhancing organizational processes and infrastructure to support VUU’s mission and growth. The CFO will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for operational efficiency and capacity building.

Candidate Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in procurement, financial planning and analysis, payroll, and auxiliary services.
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of GASB regulations required.
  • Proven ability to lead innovation and change in a growth organization.
  • Technology savvy with success in leveraging technology for innovation.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and lead a team of high-performing finance professionals.
  • Strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of ERP systems.

Compensation

This full-time position is based in Richmond, VA. The salary range is $170,000 - $200,000, commensurate with experience, with a comprehensive benefits package. The position may require a background check.
