Job description

  • Build and lead the finance organisation from its current early-stage infrastructure into a world-class function capable of supporting a public company.
  • Oversee and develop the Controller and FinOps teams, establishing robust systems, processes, and internal controls.
  • Establish accounting governance, financial reporting, and audit-readiness in line with the company's growth trajectory and IPO timeline.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to embed financial discipline across the organisation without creating unnecessary friction for a fast-moving engineering culture.
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial leaders and the board.
  • Manage and optimise deployment of multi-billion dollar capital across supply chain investments, manufacturing partnerships, and factory production capacity.
  • Lead the Series C fundraise (>$1B target) and manage ongoing relationships with institutional investors including Jane Street and major AI-focused VCs.
  • Oversee the execution of the company's debt financing strategy — including the existing ~$2B debt‑like facility — ensuring supply chain security and manufacturing readiness.
  • Work alongside founders to develop and execute long-term capital structure strategy aligned with the path to IPO.
  • Drive the business toward exit readiness targeting approximately 2029, including financial infrastructure, governance frameworks, and investor relations capability.
  • Support board and investor reporting requirements, including standing and ad hoc board discussions.
  • Advise founders on strategic exit considerations if acquisition opportunities arise from major technology players.
  • Ensure Jane Street and board-level involvement in senior finance hiring and strategic decisions is well managed and productive.
Requirements
  • 15+ years of progressive finance experience including a track record of scaling finance functions in high-growth, capital-intensive businesses.
  • Hardware, semiconductor, manufacturing, or deep tech background with genuine understanding of supply chain economics, COGS, and manufacturing financial flows.
  • Proven experience raising very large institutional rounds and managing complex, multi-billion dollar capital structures.
  • IPO experience — either as CFO or a senior finance leader who has taken a company through the public markets process.
  • Banking or consulting background viewed positively — strong financial modelling and capital markets credentials
  • Exceptional intelligence and quantitative reasoning — able to engage credibly with world-class engineers using logic and data.
  • Intellectual honesty and humility — no ego, no politics, and genuinely collaborative.
  • Autonomous and self-directed — able to operate independently while maintaining close alignment with founders.
  • Aligned with a culture that prioritises speed over capital efficiency where appropriate — comfortable with ambiguity and pace.
  • Bay Area-based, or able to commit to approximately 3 days per week in the Bay Area office.
Core Competencies

Demonstrates extensive experience in scaling finance functions within high-growth, capital-intensive businesses, with a strong focus on IPO readiness, financial governance, and strategic capital management. Capable of translating complex financial data into actionable insights while fostering collaboration across cross-functional teams.
