Job summary

Caritas Family Solutions in Belleville, Illinois, seeks a Chief Financial Officer to lead our finance operations and support the Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the CEO, the CFO guides budgeting, grants management, audits, and long-term financial planning to ensure mission-driven growth and sustainability.

The role requires seven to ten years of nonprofit finance leadership, GAAP expertise, and strong communication with the Board.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Seven to ten years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably within a nonprofit or other mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audits, and compliance functions.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Experience managing diverse funding streams, grants, and contracts.
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and develop proactive solutions.
  • Evaluate financial implications of strategic initiatives, partnerships, acquisitions, and growth.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Serve as Secretary/Treasurer for supporting boards in accordance with bylaws.

Caritas Family Solutions is seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our Executive Leadership Team. Caritas Family Solutions is a $62 million nonprofit organization serving communities across Southern Illinois through 22 diverse programs supported by multiple federal, state, local, and private funding streams. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO serves as the organization's senior financial leader, providing strategic oversight of all financial operations while partnering with executive leadership and the Board of Directors to ensure long-term financial sustainability.

What You'll Do

As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will:

  • Develop and execute financial strategies that support organizational growth and long-term sustainability.

  • Serve as Secretary/Treasurer for Caritas Family Solutions' supporting boards in accordance with organizational bylaws.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Seven to ten years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably within a nonprofit or other mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audits, and compliance functions.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Experience working with Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) contracts or other government-funded human service programs.
