Job summary
Kalamazoo Defender is seeking a visionary and mission-driven Executive Director to lead a nationally recognized nonprofit public defender organization dedicated to advancing justice, dignity, and holistic support. Based in Kalamazoo, MI, the ED will report to the Board, oversee mission execution, strategy, fundraising, governance, and operations, and partner with a multidisciplinary team.
The organization serves about 5,000 clients annually with an $11 million budget and a team of nearly 80
Qualifications
- Executive leadership experience with senior management responsibilities.
- Experience in fundraising and donor relations.
- Strong financial stewardship and budgeting capabilities.
- Ability to cultivate external relations with funders, partners, and public stakeholders.
- Governance knowledge and board partnership.
- Strategic planning and organizational growth experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead mission execution and organizational leadership.
- Oversee financial stewardship and budgeting across programs and operations.
- Drive fundraising, revenue diversification, and donor relations.
- Manage external relations, communications, and community partnerships.
- Support governance, board engagement, and policy development.
- Foster an inclusive, accountable culture and strong infrastructure.
