Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking an experienced estimating leader to develop bid opportunities in a defined market and to oversee an estimating team delivering cost-effective bids on projects up to $50 million. You will work with senior management to ensure accuracy, quality, and competitive pricing.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 10+ years in estimating and 5+ years in management. Proficiency with MS Office, BIDS 2, AGTEK, and Primavera is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of estimating experience.
  • 5+ years of management experience.
  • Experience in estimating earthwork, concrete, utility, paving, structures, and related functions.

Responsibilities

  • Review estimates and lead bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and maintain relationships to increase bid opportunities in the local market.
  • Manage estimating department functions including budgets, staffing, wage reviews, and performance evaluations to meet corporate initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise in negotiating contracts and change orders to meet project objectives.
  • Determine bid types and strategies to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Track materials, costs, methods, and historical data for realistic estimates.
  • Develop bid strategies and best practices to secure core business and new opportunities.
  • Supervise and mentor estimating staff to ensure development and Granite standards.

General Summary

This position is responsible for developing and identifying bid opportunities in a market area and managing an estimating team to ensure quality estimates on projects up to $50 million that support company objectives.

Essential Job Accountabilities
  • Review estimates and lead bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships to increase bid opportunities in the local market.
  • Manage and administer estimating department functions including operating budgets, staffing, wage reviews, work assignments, performance evaluations to ensure corporate initiatives are met.
  • Provide technical expertise in negotiating contracts and change orders as required, to make certain project objectives are met.
  • Provide input to determine what types of projects to bid, pursue strategies, techniques, to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Ensure pertinent information including material types and costs, construction methods and historical costs are tracked, archived, updated and used by other estimators to allow realistic and accurate estimates.
  • Develop bid strategies and estimating best practices for securing core business work and exploring new opportunities for the business unit.
  • Supervise, direct, and mentor estimating staff to ensure individual development and Granite standards are met.
  • Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid.
Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, related field or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.

Work Experience
  • 10+ years of Estimating experience
  • 5+ years management experience required
  • Experience in construction and estimating of earthwork, concrete, utility, paving, structures, and related functions.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), BIDS 2, AGTEK and Primavera.
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, market strategies and techniques, and contracts.
  • Excellent organizational, supervisory, and decision making/problem solving skills essential.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively disseminate information.

Salaried employees may choose from two PPO medical plans through Anthem BlueCross, including our most popular plan, for which 100% of the premium is paid by Granite for eligible employees and dependents.

Employees can also opt into a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

As part of our investment in your future outside of the workplace, Granite provides a 100% match on the first 6% of eligible compensation that salaried employees defer into their 401(k) plans, which vests immediately.

Benefits may vary for positions located outside of the continental United States.

Base Salary Range: $133,287.00 - $199,931.00 Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.
