Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a Chief Principal Engineer for Rocket Lab Optical Systems in Tucson, AZ. Lead design, development and integration of next‑generation space-based EO sensors, guiding a multidisciplinary team from requirements through sustainment to ensure mission success.

You will champion MBSE, manage risk, engage with customers and stakeholders, and shape proposals and technical volumes for future opportunities while supporting national security missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline; 12+ years of professional experience
• Active Secret/Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
• Proven ability to deliver complex aerospace or defense systems on cost, on schedule, and to performance requirements
• Experience as chief engineer or technical authority on a program of record or major defense contract

Responsibilities

• Own the technical baseline for programs across systems engineering, hardware, software, and test
• Chair program gate reviews from SRR through TRR and assess design maturity and risk
• Shape system architecture for payload, ground systems, and mission operations
• Guide execution to meet cost, schedule, and technical objectives; oversee subcontractors
• Advance MBSE and Digital Engineering practices within the program
