We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Engineer for Gateway Lab Operations GRAIL to join the team with Nexus, a teammate company.

The Chief Engineer for Gateway Lab Operations GRAIL will:

  1. Support the GRAIL (Gateway Ready Avionics Integration Lab), a critical testing facility of the Gateway Program which will return to the Moon.
  2. Provide expertise on facility and emulator design fidelity.
  3. Lead development and integration of high-fidelity avionics hardware and software for the lab.
  4. Support engineering flight project schedules, procurement documentation, budgets, and system requirements documents.
  5. Review integrated analysis of the GRAIL system, hardware, and software in relation to other Gateway Systems and the operational environment.
  6. Participate in system requirements reviews, preliminary design reviews, and critical design reviews.
  7. Review system-level architecture trade studies and analyses to influence overall facility design and performance.
  8. Identify risks, develop risk statements, and plan risk responses with mitigation strategies.
  9. Communicate lab fidelity to customers and present to boards/panels.
  10. Perform other duties as required.
  11. Maintain good communication and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and normally possess 5-10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required.
  • On-location position - situational telework only.
  • Experience in development and integration of a high-fidelity integration lab.
  • Understanding of electrical, mechanical, and power systems.
  • Able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Experience working in a team environment.

Requisition Preferences:

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Past experience with NASA.
  • Experience with Avionics is a plus.

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but may involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Physical Requirements: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90%). May require lifting up to 25 lbs. (5%).

Equipment and Machines: Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance: Regular attendance as per work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal hours and adjust to meet peak periods.
