Job summary

Pro Staff seeks a Chief Engineer to lead submarine cable systems projects worldwide from our Williamsburg, VA office. Responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair, you will direct multidisciplinary teams across domestic and international operations, ensuring safety, schedule, and technical excellence.

A strong background in undersea cable engineering and shipboard operations is required. Travel up to 50% internationally is expected, with the ability to coordinate with customers,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Sciences, or related field preferred.
  • Relevant submarine cable engineering experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance with eligibility for Top Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering planning and execution for submarine cable installation and repair projects.
  • Develop technical specifications, procedures, and project documentation.
  • Manage vessel mobilization, cable loading, and offshore operations.
  • Serve as the primary technical lead onboard installation and repair vessels.
  • Coordinate with customers, marine crews, engineers, logistics teams, and technical specialists.
  • Conduct project reviews, operational briefings, and post-project assessments.
  • Support training initiatives and mentor engineering personnel.
  • Provide project management oversight and supervise team members when required.

Now Hiring: Chief Engineer - Submarine Cable Systems - Direct Hire

Location: Williamsburg, VA

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 + Field Pay Eligibility

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Travel: Up to 50% International Shipboard Travel

Ready to lead complex global engineering projects that connect continents? We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of submarine cable systems while leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across domestic and international operations.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Sciences, or related field preferred
  • Relevant submarine cable engineering experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Experience Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of undersea cable installation, repair, and cable mechanics
  • Experience with shore end installations, vessel loading, route clearance, and cable repair operations
  • Familiarity with Makai Lay and Winfrog software preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Clearance with eligibility for Top Secret Clearance
Job Duties

Physical Capabilities
  • Ability to work aboard vessels and at remote project locations
  • Ability to work in cable tanks, containers, and cable storage facilities
  • Must pass Fit for Duty physical and STCW Basic Safety Training
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 50% of the time
