Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) is seeking a Chief Engineer to drive operational excellence across complex facility systems. As a key technical leader, you will manage engineering teams while ensuring hands-on involvement with critical infrastructure such as HVAC, boilers, and emergency generators.

With over 5 years of facilities management experience, this customer-facing role will require strong leadership skills and technical expertise.

Chief Engineer-JLL

What this job involves: As Chief Engineer, you'll be the technical leader driving operational excellence across complex facility systems in a dynamic, high-tech environment. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, requiring you to manage engineering teams while maintaining hands‑on involvement with critical infrastructure including boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, emergency generators, and high‑voltage electrical distribution. You'll serve as a key partner to both the site Facility Manager and Regional Engineering Director, ensuring seamless operations across all building systems. This customer‑facing position demands strong technical skills in at least one specialized craft area while maintaining multi‑skilled capabilities across electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and central utility plant operations. You'll navigate building management systems, oversee vendor relationships, and ensure compliance with all operational procedures and safety standards.

What your day‑to‑day will look like:

• Lead and develop your engineering team including Facilities Coordinators, Lead Engineers, and Central Utility Plant personnel through goal‑setting, performance evaluations, and comprehensive training programs
• Execute complex maintenance and repair work on boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, emergency generators, steam systems, and propane vaporizers while troubleshooting issues across all building systems
• Manage the facilities work order system, allocating resources effectively and ensuring timely completion while monitoring Key Performance Indicators
• Conduct scheduled inspections of critical equipment including CRAC/H units, pumps, breakers, and switches, documenting findings and navigating Building Management Systems to resolve issues
• Generate and implement Switching Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and Emergency Operating Procedures, maintaining an updated library with annual reviews
• Coordinate daily operations meetings, plan work schedules efficiently, and serve as the communication bridge between site management, business stakeholders, scientific staff, and external contractors
• Negotiate competitive vendor bids, ensure third‑party contract compliance, and oversee project implementation while maintaining procurement policy compliance

Required qualifications:

• High school degree or GED
• 5 + years of facilities management experience, preferably in high‑tech industry
• Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, Mechanical, and Electrical systems including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, generators, and UPS systems
• Excellent presentation skills with proficiency in PowerPoint, MS Office, and Visio/CAD for documentation and communication purposes
• Ability to maintain professionalism under stressful situations, solve complex problems using rational judgment, and react effectively during emergency situations
• Ability to perform physical demands including prolonged standing, lifting 25 pounds, and working in various facility environments including mechanical spaces

Preferred qualifications:

• Technical degree or advanced certifications in engineering, facilities management, or related specialized craft areas
• 3+ years of people management experience
• NETA Certification in High Voltage (115kV) Switchyard and Medium Voltage Substation Operations and Maintenance
• Experience with CMMS/work order platforms such as MAXIMO, with ability to manage workflow allocation and completion tracking
• Strong customer service instincts with outgoing, friendly, and collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory compliance requirements for facility operations

Schedule: M-F , 3-days-onsite, 2-remote work

Location: Rochester, MN

Expected compensation for this position: 93,100.00 – 115,000.00 USD per year

Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
