Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando International Drive North seeks a Chief Engineer to oversee hotel maintenance, ensuring HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and energy systems operate safely and efficiently.

You will lead the maintenance team, manage budgets, coordinate with vendors, and support hotel leadership to deliver a safe, comfortable guest experience in a family-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year as Chief Engineer/Lead Maintenance Technician or 2–3 years as a facility engineer in hospitality or commercial properties.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and general building systems.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations and building codes (local/state/national).
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and equipment operation protocols.
• Ability to lead, train, and supervise maintenance staff.

Responsibilities

• Inspect daily property conditions with GM and Housekeeping; identify safety, cleanliness, and maintenance needs.
• Remain on-call 24/7 for urgent maintenance or emergencies.
• Prioritize maintenance requests and work orders via the company platform.
• Troubleshoot and supervise maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, generators, kitchen equipment, and guestroom systems.
• Maintain preventive maintenance schedules across all areas and equipment.
• Log all work, inspections, and repairs in the Naples Hotel Group platform.
• Manage inventory of tools, parts, and supplies; order materials as needed.
• Develop and manage annual maintenance department budget aligned with company goals.
• Oversee bids and vendor contracts for landscaping, equipment, and outsourced needs.
• Ensure exterior/grounds remain clean and visually appealing; oversee pool maintenance.
• Coordinate with inspectors to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Hire, train, schedule, and supervise maintenance staff.
• Attend weekly management meetings; respond to inquiries professionally.

Job description

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of the hotel's maintenance operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, life safety, and energy management. This role ensures the property's physical infrastructure is well-maintained, compliant with safety and brand standards, and operating efficiently. The Chief Engineer leads the maintenance team, coordinates with vendors and contractors, and partners with hotel leadership to support a safe, comfortable, and well-functioning environment for guests and team members. You will be focused on optimizing each guest’s experience by living out our company purpose: “hospitality from our family to yours.”

Job Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the General Manager and Housekeeping team to conduct daily property inspections, identifying current and potential safety, cleanliness, and maintenance needs.
• Remain on-call 24/7 to address urgent maintenance issues or emergencies as needed.
• Review and prioritize maintenance requests and work orders using the company’s digital maintenance platform.
• Troubleshoot, perform, and supervise maintenance and repair work for systems including, but not limited to:
• HVAC and refrigeration
• Plumbing and water treatment
• Electrical systems and switch rooms
• Life safety and fire protection systems
• Emergency generators and backup systems
• Kitchen equipment and lighting
• Guestroom A/C units, ice machines, water softeners, and roof exhausts
• Maintain and oversee a preventive maintenance schedule for all hotel areas, including guestrooms, public spaces, meeting rooms, back-of-house areas, and equipment.
• Log all completed work, inspections, and repairs in the Naples Hotel Group maintenance platform.
• Track and maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies; order materials as needed to support department operations.
• Develop and manage the maintenance department’s annual budget in alignment with company goals.
• Obtain bids and oversee vendor contracts for services such as landscaping, equipment maintenance, and other outsourced facility needs.
• Ensure the exterior and grounds of the property are clean, well-maintained, and visually appealing.
• Oversee pool maintenance, including water quality, cleanliness, and chemical levels, in accordance with health and safety regulations.
• Coordinate with local inspectors (fire, health, safety, and building) to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Hire, train, schedule, and supervise maintenance staff to ensure efficient and effective operations.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in all maintenance workspaces, storage rooms, and mechanical areas.
• Respond to emergencies quickly and follow established safety and emergency procedures.
• Attend and actively participate in weekly management meetings.
• Respond promptly and professionally to emails, voicemails, and internal or guest-related maintenance inquiries.
• Follow hotel policies related to lost and found, guest confidentiality, and internal communications.
• Collaborate with other departments to resolve service issues efficiently and ensure a seamless guest experience.
• Promote safety for guests and staff by following key control procedures, reporting hazards, and completing safety trainings and certifications.
• Must maintain a professional appearance in accordance with company standards.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to meet evolving business demands.

Job Qualifications:

• Strong working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and general building systems.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations, and local, state, and national building codes.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and equipment operation protocols.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form with guests, team members, and contractors.
• Proficient in using smartphones, computers, and basic maintenance software or work order platforms.
• Ability to lead, train, and supervise maintenance staff in a hands-on environment.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as business needs dictate.
• EPA Universal Certification or CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification is a plus.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds independently.
• Requires frequent and sustained standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching, climbing, and kneeling throughout the shift.
• Manual dexterity to safely and efficiently operate tools, maintenance equipment, computers, phones, and tablets.
• Ability to work in tight spaces, elevated areas, or outdoor environments as needed.
• Must be able to visually inspect work areas and systems for functionality, cleanliness, and safety.
• Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Exposure to a variety of environmental conditions including hot and cold temperatures, outdoor weather, confined spaces, and noisy or dusty environments
