Job summary

Hearst Television's Gulf Coast News in Fort Myers, FL seeks a Chief Engineer to organize, plan, and lead the technical operation of our live broadcast environment.

The role manages studio and field equipment, IT infrastructure, and staff, ensuring FCC compliance, quality control, and timely maintenance across transmitter and distribution systems; reporting to the General Manager and Department Head Team.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent military training and experience.
  • Budgeting and capital planning experience.
  • Computer literacy mandatory.
  • FCC General Class License a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of all studio and field equipment
  • Supervision of the daily operation of the station
  • Supervise technical and operational staff
  • Oversight of IT integrity and infrastructure
  • Maintain transmitter, satellite antenna systems, signal distribution and routing systems
  • Exhibits working knowledge of television maintenance as well as FCC requirements and licensing
  • Has ability to adapt to multiple priorities

JOB DESCRIPTION

Gulf Coast News in Fort Myers, Florida, has an opening for a Chief Engineer. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to organize, plan, manage, document and execute assignments within a demanding live broadcast environment. This person is responsible for the equipment that provides the content of our broadcast on-air program streams. Candidate will be responsible for monitoring multiple air channels, maintaining regulatory compliance, and assuring quality control of on air product. The individual will be directly responsible for the supervision of the daily operation of the station. Responsibilities include oversight of all studio and field equipment and the supervision and motivation of the technical staff. The position will also be responsible for scheduling and planning of the technical staff. The ideal candidate must excel in motivating and working with a high-energy team and should demonstrate success in budgeting, capital planning and personnel management. This position reports directly to the General Manager and serves on the station's Department Head Team.

Job Responsibilities:

Experience Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in studio, SNG and ENG broadcast operations
  • Previous leadership and management experience
  • Budgeting and Capital planning
  • Military experience will be considered
  • Computer literacy is mandatory
Qualifications Requirements:
  • FCC General Class License a plus.
Education:
  • College Degree or equivalent military training and experience
  • SBE certifications are preferred
