Job summary

Periodic Labs is seeking an EHS leadership expert to build safety architecture for an autonomous, high-complexity materials science lab in Menlo Park. You will define permitting strategy, design life-safety systems, and train teams on HazOps, PHA/FMEA, and risk assessments for 24/7 operations.

Collaborating with ML/AI teams, you’ll integrate EH&S constraints into experimental planning and autonomous execution, ensuring compliant, safe, and scalable lab practices across new processes and

Qualifications

10+ years in EHS, process safety, or chemical operations in labs or manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of EH&S regulations, standards and best practices.
Hands-on HAZOPs or FMEA experience and safety system design.
Certification in EH&S (CSP, CIH) is a plus.
On-site work in a fast-paced, high-complexity lab environment.

Responsibilities

Lead site EHS team with a hands-on approach to safety and culture.
Own permitting with local, state, and federal agencies and maintain records.
Maintain chemical inventories, SDS library, and hazard labeling.
Lead HazCom and SDS training for lab staff, including nights.
Design and review life safety systems (fire, gas detection, interlocks).
Perform HAZOPs, PHA/FMEA and risk assessments for new processes.
