Job summary

  • Develop, build, and manage a portfolio of ministry partner relationships with an emphasis on major giving partners.
  • Meet with existing and prospective ministry partners; provide timely follow-up communications.
  • Oversee development planning, communications, branding, and event strategy for fundraising.
  • Supervise development staff and volunteers; set performance metrics and conduct reviews.
  • Coordinate Salesforce data entry, reporting, and data-driven development efforts.
  • Prepare annual development budget and contribute to strategic initiatives.

Position Summary

The Chief Investment Officer exists to advance the mission of South Texas Youth for Christ by overseeing and coordinating the execution of the chapter’s comprehensive development strategy. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves as a key member of the Executive team. Qualified candidates must have a heart for stewardship ministry, be an organized self-starter, possess strong management and relational skills, and be proficient in both written and verbal communication.

Essential Functions
  • 5% — Development Planning
  • Participate in the creation and planning of the STYFC annual development plan (Find, Win, Keep, Lift) to resource the following areas:
  • Annual operating fund (Chapter, ministry centers, and ministry sites)
  • Reserve funds
  • Assets
  • Camp scholarships
  • Ministry expansion
  • 50% — Personal Engagement
  • Develop, build, and manage a portfolio of ministry partner relationships with an emphasis on major giving partners
  • Meet individually with existing and prospective ministry partners
  • Provide personal follow-up correspondence: thank you notes, phone calls, texts, email, etc.
  • Ensure that appropriate care and appreciation is shown with ministry partners
  • 10% — Communication
  • Oversee the execution of STYFC’s chapter-wide communication schedule
  • Oversee the creation and provision of the necessary marketing and promotional materials to support STYFC’s annual development efforts
  • Oversee and maintain branding standards for STYFC
  • Oversee and manage the external communications of STYFC
  • Oversee the development of print materials to support external communications
  • Oversee the social media, web, and electronic communication strategy
  • Oversee the development of videos and other media resources to enhance communication efforts
  • Participate in the writing of letters, newsletters, and ongoing correspondence with ministry partners and ensure that appropriate communication is delivered in a timely manner
  • Present the mission and vision of STYFC to groups (churches, service clubs, businesses, ministry partners, etc.)
  • Facilitate a range of activities that inform and promote legacy giving for STYFC
  • Event Management
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and follow-up of STYFC’s fundraising event strategy, including:
  • Regularly Scheduled “See the Story” Events (Point of Entry)
  • “Be the Story” Ask Events
  • Follow-up with See the Story / Be the Story guests
  • Ministry Partner Appreciation Events
  • Other projects (Camp Fundraisers, etc.)
  • Work with and through staff and volunteer teams to carry out the event strategy with a high degree of excellence
  • Administrative Support
  • Set up appointments with existing and prospective major gift partners with the CIO and CEO
  • Become proficient in the use of Salesforce as our donor management system
  • Oversee the data entry of the Salesforce database with a special emphasis on maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, as well as extracting and analyzing data to assist with development efforts
  • Work with the operations team to ensure that receipt acknowledgement, recognition, and follow-up with ministry partners is done in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Coordinate the process for solicitation, procurement, and acknowledgement of gift-in-kind donations when applicable
  • Oversee and participate in the procurement of grant funding from local, state, and national foundations in partnership with the CIO and in coordination with appropriate staff
  • Compile and distribute regular staff prayer communications as they relate to development needs
  • Oversee the printing, compilation, and mailing of newsletters and other regular correspondence
  • Attend board or committee meetings when necessary

Staff Supervision & Support

  • Provide oversight and regular supervision appointments with assigned development support staff
  • Create performance metrics and conduct annual and semi-annual reviews with development support staff
  • Assist with recruiting and managing a team of volunteers to help with specific development events and projects
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Participate in regular supervisor appointments with the CEO
  • Attend and participate in training opportunities and staff conferences when offered
  • Provide training to local staff to enhance their development effectiveness
  • Maintain current job descriptions for each development staff member
  • Prepare for and participate in scheduled staff retreats
  • Help construct the annual development budget and performance objectives
  • Submit strategic initiatives to help the development department grow in impact
  • Support the overall vision and mission of STYFC

Primary And Secondary Steward Responsibilities

  • Employees may be assigned a Primary Steward of any of the following: Volunteer(s), Donor(s), Vendor(s), Chapter(s), Processes, Standards and Best Practices (PSBPs). All Employees are assigned the role of Secondary Steward, which plays a supporting role to the Primary Steward to serve a chapter in a specific way, for a specific timeframe as determined by the Primary Steward. Secondary Stewards can be assigned to focus on specific management issues like YFC compliance, legal, risk, strategic planning, fund development coaching, staff development coaching, new ministry site development, process stewardship or a variety of other equipping roles.

Fundraising Responsibilities

  • All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • A college degree in sales, marketing, business administration, or other related fields is preferred. Prior experience in development is strongly preferred. The learning curve for this position will require at least one full annual cycle.YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by YFC USA.
