Build the next era of BGCP

What if your next fundraising leadership role helped shape how an entire generation prepares for its future? Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro (BGCP) is seeking a dynamic Chief Development Officer to turn an ambitious vision into lasting opportunity for young people.

Through Future Ready, we are building the Clubs of the Future—a continuum of experiences that connects reading literacy, financial education, and youth entrepreneurship with career exploration and skills building for future workforce. Our emerging Youth Force Centers will put innovation at the center of the teen experience, with immersive virtual reality career simulations as an anchor for exploring possibilities and building skills for the future. And, our new Blue Door Academy initiative will expand our reach into new communities creating more opportunities for youth to engage in academic enrichment programming designed to equip them for Great Futures.

As our Chief Development Officer, you will help secure the philanthropic investment that brings this vision to life while strengthening the support that sustains our Clubs every day. You will partner directly with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors to grow revenue, deepen donor relationships, and connect community investment to measurable youth impact.

An executive role with room to lead

You will serve as BGCP’s lead fundraising strategist and top fundraiser, with responsibility for the full Development & Marketing department. This is a highly visible opportunity for a leader who enjoys building relationships, making the ask, developing talented people, and delivering results.

You will lead senior staff across development and board operations, donor relations and special events, grants management, marketing and community engagement, and corporate workforce partnerships. A Vice President of Development & Board Operations supports day-to-day systems and team coordination, allowing you to focus on revenue strategy, major and principal gifts, naming partnerships, and external leadership.

What you will lead
  • Philanthropic growth. Develop and execute a multi-year fundraising strategy that achieves annual revenue goals, diversifies support, and advances long-term sustainability across individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundations, special events, and naming opportunities.
  • Major and principal gifts. Personally manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects with gift opportunities of $25,000 to $1 million or more. Lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, and partner with the CEO to secure transformational investments.
  • A strong Development & Marketing team. Set clear priorities and performance expectations, coach and develop staff, and build a culture of collaboration, ownership, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Board fundraising engagement. Equip Board members and the Resource Development Committee to open doors, cultivate relationships, and serve as effective fundraisers and mission ambassadors.
  • An inspiring public voice. Align marketing, communications, and impact storytelling with fundraising priorities. Represent BGCP with philanthropic, corporate, civic, and media partners, and build relationships that expand our reach and resources.
  • Disciplined execution. Strengthen donor pipeline management, revenue forecasting, reporting, and stewardship. Use reliable data to guide decisions and ensure fundraising commitments align with program strategy and organizational capacity.
Qualities of the ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate combines the ambition to grow philanthropy with the discipline to deliver. You bring:

  • A relationship builder’s instincts and a fundraiser’s confidence. You earn trust, listen closely, connect donor interests to mission, and make clear, compelling asks.
  • A builder’s mindset. You see possibility in an evolving organization and translate an ambitious vision into focused plans, strong partnerships, and sustained revenue.
  • Executive judgment and financial fluency. You balance innovation with sound stewardship and connect fundraising performance to organizational sustainability.
  • A people-centered leadership style. You set high expectations, invest in staff growth, and create an environment where people feel respected, supported, and accountable.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and follow-through. You welcome learning, respond thoughtfully to change, and bring consistency and energy to the work.
  • A deep commitment to youth and equity. You value diverse perspectives and lived experiences and understand that safe, inclusive environments are essential to our mission.
Experience you will bring

Required

  • 10 or more years of progressive leadership in nonprofit development or advancement.
  • A proven record of securing major gifts of $25,000 or more and contributing to high-performing fundraising teams.
  • Experience leading or supporting capital or comprehensive campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, support, and lead development and marketing staff.
  • Strong executive presence and relationship management skills with high-net-worth individuals and institutional funders.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with a Board of Directors and coordinating shared efforts to advance a mission toward social impact.
  • Strategic thinking, strong financial and business acumen, and the ability to turn plans into measurable results.

Preferred

Experience in youth development, education, or workforce development; planning and leading capital or comprehensive campaigns; activating boards in fundraising; and using CRM systems, preferably Salesforce, for data governance, reporting, forecasting, and workflow automation.

How we will define success

You and the CEO will establish annual targets aligned with strategic direction, budget, and baseline data. Success will include meeting fundraising goals; building a stronger major gifts pipeline and donor retention; expanding corporate and naming partnerships; strengthening team and Board engagement; and delivering accurate forecasts, reliable donor data, and compelling impact storytelling.

A mission and culture worth investing in

Our mission is to empower all young people to discover their full potential, especially those who need us most. Our programming is designed to open pathways to education, careers, and economic mobility in the communities we serve. We bring that same commitment to our workplace, valuing diverse perspectives, investing in our people, and learning together.

As Chief Development Officer, you will help turn this vision into opportunity by connecting philanthropic investment to lasting impact for youth and families. Expect meaningful challenges, ambitious goals, and the reward of seeing your leadership help young people build their futures.
