The Head of the Data Science Mission Office will manage budget, resources, and external collaborations, while mentoring staff and advancing responsible AI.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• Demonstrated leadership in data science, AI infrastructure, or strategic technology planning.
• Proven track record of applying AI/ML to scientific domains.

Responsibilities

• Develop and communicate a clear Data Science strategy for STScI.
• Lead cross-disciplinary initiatives and partnerships to advance data-driven discovery.
• Oversee budget, resources, and performance of the Data Science Mission Office.
• Mentor staff and foster collaboration across engineering, science, and external partners.
