Job summary

Doña Ana County is seeking a chief legal counsel to lead the Legal Department. You will direct daily operations, provide strategic legal advice, supervise staff, and coordinate legal services for county programs and initiatives.

Qualifications

• Eight years of practice including litigation, appellate work.
• Five years of supervisory experience required.
• NM license or eligibility for Public Employee Limited License within one year.
• Must pass background and driving record checks.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct daily operations of the Legal Department.
• Advise elected officials and county management on legal matters.
• Represent the County in state and federal courts and negotiations.
• Oversee contracts, property matters, and regulatory compliance.
• Develop long-range legal planning and manage the department budget.
