Job summary

The Town of Basalt is seeking a Chief Building Official to lead the Building Department and oversee all aspects of the building review process, including plan review and inspections. The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a commitment to exceptional customer service in a mountain-town setting.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, ICC CBO certification (or within six months), and at least five years of progressive experience in building code

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in construction management, engineering, architecture, building inspection, or related field.
• Current ICC Building Official certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Minimum five years’ experience in building code administration, plan review, permitting, inspections, or related operations with supervisory duties.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to Building Department staff.
• Ensure effective administration of building codes, permitting, inspections, and related operations.
• Collaborate with Town leadership, staff, and the public to maintain high service standards.
