Job summary

City of Hillsboro is seeking a Chief Building Official (CBO) to lead the building department, inspect structures, and enforce codes and zoning laws. The role requires strong documentation, planning review, and staff coordination.

Responsibilities include on-site inspections, plan reviews, and enforcing city regulations, with 24/7 on-call duties. Candidates should have a related degree or experience and the required licenses/certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or Associate’s Degree in fields listed under Education and Experience.
• Training and/or experience in maintenance and/or construction.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
• CBO Certification.

Responsibilities

• Inspect commercial, industrial, and residential buildings to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Review plans and specifications for code compliance and approve plans as required.
• Inspect work sites to ensure possession of licenses and permits.
• Conduct inspections to enforce housing and zoning codes and investigate violations.
• Document violations and communicate corrective actions to violators.
• Maintain accurate case files and prepare routine reports and notices.
• Provide staff support and maintain records for meetings and boards.
• On-call availability 24/7 for emergencies and inspections.
