Brevard County seeks a Chief Building Official to lead the Building Code Compliance unit within the Planning and Development Department. This permanent, full-time role oversees the County's Building Code Program and directs technical, professional, and clerical staff.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Architectural/Civil/Structural Engineering or Building Construction and has at least seven years' experience, including five in a supervisory capacity.

THIS POSITION IS APPOINTIVE SERVICE
$125,000.00 Annually. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Government Center/Viera. Work Schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Performs skilled administrative work in directing the County's Building Code Program. Supervision is given to technical, professional, and clerical personnel.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Construction, or a closely related field PLUS seven (7) years of experience as an architect, engineer, building inspector, building contractor, or building superintendent, which includes five (5) years in a supervisory capacity. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess a current valid State of Florida Standard Building Code Administrator certification, issued by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB), in accordance with the provisions set forth in Florida Statute 468.601-.633 and must maintain said certification during the term of employment. Current State of Florida Standard Inspector and Plans Examiner certifications in Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing issued by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) are required.
