Job summary

Roadrunner Venture Studios is seeking a Head of Atmospheric Research to lead the atmospheric science function for a rainfall enhancement technology portfolio company. The role involves setting scientific direction, hands-on modeling, and building a team to support a growing deployment program.

You will lead atmospheric prediction, data assimilation, and evaluation, working with Weather/AI teams while coordinating with partners and universities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in atmospheric science, meteorology, physics, computer science, data science, or related field.
• Experience in atmospheric science, meteorology, weather prediction, or atmospheric research.
• Experience configuring and analyzing WRF; contribution to WRF development is valuable.
• Experience implementing WRFDA, DART, or similar data assimilation systems.
• Strong knowledge of boundary layer meteorology, cloud microphysics, and mesoscale dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Set scientific strategy for evaluating atmospheric conditions and deployment windows.
• Integrate forecasts, datasets, radar, satellite imagery, and field data into assessments.
• Review data around deployments, compare predictions with observations, and quantify uncertainty.
• Lead WRF modeling program for deployment planning and scenario analysis.
• Build an operational modeling chain for high-resolution simulations and data management.
