Job summary

Virginia Union University (VUU) seeks a Chief AI Development Officer to define and govern AI strategy across the university, shaping policies, training, and adoption while ensuring responsible, secure, and equitable AI implementation.

The CAIDO will lead enterprise AI initiatives, collaborate with IT and academic units, and report to the President and Board. Based on the Richmond campus, this role directly supports student success and institutional growth.

Qualifications

• Progressive leadership experience in AI, software, data, automation, or enterprise tech.
• Ability to translate AI opportunities into practical institutional outcomes.
• Experience leading cross-functional AI initiatives and governance.
• Executive-level communication to trustees, executives, faculty, staff, and students.
• Knowledge of model risk, security/privacy controls, and responsible-AI practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise AI strategy, governance, and implementation roadmap.
• Develop AI training programs for executives, faculty, staff, and students.
• Oversee AI agents, automation, and agent-based systems development.
• Partner with IT to integrate AI with ERP, LMS, CRM and other systems.
• Represent VUU externally as a leader in responsible AI adoption.
