Job description

Description

A Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, metal, wallboard, etc., using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes. While maintaining the necessary production and quality required to complete a project and exceeding the customers' expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to materials required and dimensions of structures or fixtures to be fabricated. Select materials; prepare layout using tape, framing square, and other tools; mark cutting and assembly lines on materials.
  • Shape materials to prescribed measurements using power and hand tools. Assemble, cut and shape materials and fasten them with applicable fasteners. Verify trueness of structures prior to completion. Apply shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls. Install prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware such as locks and kick plates.
  • Work to production schedules and maintain quality; report to foreman or lead hand; perform a range of carpentry tasks as assigned; maintain a safe work environment.
  • Operate with precise accuracy, applying shop mathematics, planning work, selecting proper tools, and comparing sizes and forms from drawings or diagrams.
  • Physically capable of climbing scaffolds and ladders, reaching, lifting up to 100 pounds, and performing required movements with good vision.
  • Compensation: wages based on union scales, typically ranging from entry-level apprentice rates to journeyman rates depending on location.
