Job summary

Hexion Inc. is seeking a highly skilled ML scientist to lead model development for chemistry, formulation, property, and process optimization.

You will work with R&D and manufacturing to translate business goals into multi-objective modeling tasks and curate chemical data for robust predictions. The role requires strong Python/Machine Learning expertise, experience with uncertainty quantification, and the ability to communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, or a related field with substantial ML modeling experience.
• Domain knowledge in chemistry, preferably polymer chemistry.
• Proven ability to develop molecular/material representations and train/evaluate predictive models across families.
• Experience in applied statistics and uncertainty quantification, including model calibration and domain of validity.
• Strong Python skills with mainstream Python ML frameworks.
• Active use of AI-assisted coding and familiarity with emerging ML methods including LLMs and agentic approaches.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management with R&D, manufacturing, and business teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead ML model development for prediction and optimization across chemistry, formulation, property, and process.
• Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing to frame problems and translate goals into multi-objective modeling tasks.
• Curate and analyze chemical/experimental data, assess quality and limits on modeling.
• Develop representations for materials/chemistry data and select/train/evaluate predictive models across families.
• Quantify model performance and define domain of validity for downstream use.
• Apply transfer learning across multiple data sources and varying fidelity.
