Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking an entry-level Chemist or Material Engineer to analyze, research, and design materials for energetic devices and aircraft escape systems. The role includes laboratory analyses and material characterization to support specification and processing.

You will collaborate with development teams to ensure correct material selections, document decisions, and help maintain material drawing requirements for new products.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related STEM major obtained by start date.
• Experience with Thermal Analysis Tools including DSC, Calorimetry, TGA, and TMA.
• Experience with composite materials, adhesives, epoxies, rubbers, etc and their aging behaviors and associated failure modes.
• Experience with configuration management.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in systems and subsystems.
• Perform material analyses that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
• Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
• Develop and maintain drawing requirements for materials.
• Cooperate with the development teams to assure that the correct materials are selected for new products.
• Document the reasons for material selections and the factors that were considered.

Role Overview:

The associate performs laboratory analyses and characterization that include, but are not limited to, chemical analysis, failure analysis of components, and definition and requirement specifications. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. May review and approve subcontractor procedures.
