Job summary

McKee Foods Corporation in Collegedale, TN, is seeking a Chemistry Intern to join our Corporate Research and Development team. You will gain hands-on experience in food analysis and quality testing, working with seasoned chemistry and food technology professionals in a real-world manufacturing setting.

This internship offers exposure to food safety, regulatory compliance, and the application of chemistry in production.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in BS/MS in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science/Technology or related field.
• Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate Student.
• Enrolled in or completed Quantitative Analysis and/or Organic Chemistry I/II or equivalent biology courses.
• Proficient with Word/Excel and documenting procedures clearly.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze samples in a laboratory setting.
• Perform calibrations and maintain lab equipment.
• Document and report analytical and quality test results.
• Support food safety and regulatory compliance initiatives.
• Learn and apply chemistry techniques used in food manufacturing.

Pay

$18.18 - $20.14 / hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Schedule

1st Shift (Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

On-site Interns will work approximately 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week may be expected during summer months and school breaks. This internship will be year-round. Only candidates within commuting distance to Collegedale, TN will be considered.

Required Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a BS degree or MS degree program in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science/Technology, Chemical Engineering or equivalent area of study
• Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate Student
• Currently enrolled in or completion of Quantitative Analysis and/or Organic Chemistry I/II courses or equivalent higher level Biology courses
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
• Ability to clearly document procedures, problems, solutions, etc.
• Strong problem-solving, trouble-shooting and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in a chemistry lab
• 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Undergraduate work including successful completion in some or all of the following courses: Food Quality or Food Safety
• Self-motivated, with strong initiative and self-direction
• Solid interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively alone or in a team environment
