Position Overview

Howard Community College (HCC) is seeking a 10‑month full‑time Chemistry Faculty member to begin in Spring 2027. The faculty member will primarily teach introductory and general chemistry lecture and laboratory courses for allied health majors, with the possibility of teaching other chemistry classes as needed. Faculty may be asked to teach day and/or evening courses and across modalities (hybrid, face‑to‑face, online, etc.). The successful candidate is an enthusiastic educator who demonstrates professionalism, a commitment to teaching excellence, and an ability to incorporate innovative strategies and technology appropriately into instruction. Interest in mentoring students in undergraduate research projects is preferred.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Teach a workload of approximately 30 units per year (14–16 units per semester). When additional administrative or other duties are assigned, a class‑load reduction may be granted by the Dean. Summer session classes may also be requested.
  • Deliver core general chemistry lecture and laboratory, chemistry for allied health students, and chemistry and society classes.
  • Operate chemistry laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain scheduled classes and office hours: Ten‑month faculty members shall post and maintain a minimum of five office hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Faculty members with an in‑person component will hold at least one on‑campus office hour per week for each on‑campus course, up to three of the five hours. Additional office hours may be scheduled remotely via synchronous videoconferencing (e.g., Zoom or Canvas). All faculty may designate up to two office hours as floating office hours.
  • Integrate Canvas and other relevant technologies, including free or low‑cost resources (OER).
  • Communicate effectively and timely with students regarding class policy and course outcomes; promote student learning through assignments and activities.
  • Teach day/evening courses across modalities and in accelerated (7‑week), 10‑week, and 15‑week formats as required.
  • Engage in active professional development and continuous growth.
  • Serve on departmental, campus, and college committees; participate in grant activities and professional organizations.

Compensation

Salary range: $63,544–$87,374, reflecting the anticipated hiring range for this position. Actual starting salary will be based on qualifications, relevant experience, and internal equity considerations.
