Oakton College is seeking qualified faculty for General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry to educate and empower diverse student communities across Des Plaines and Skokie campuses. Essential Functions of the Position

• Construction of a course syllabus, consistent with the genericcourse syllabus, that stipulates course objectives, content, andgrading criteria,
• Preparation of course presentations and instructionalmaterials, for lecture, and laboratory and clinical functions (asappropriate),
• Delivery of instruction, including being prepared for andmeeting courses and laboratories (if appropriate) at scheduledtimes,
• Consultation with and evaluation of students,
• Maintenance of clear records on student performance, as well asany other factors, such as attendance involved with the grading ofstudents,
• Compliance with departmental and institutional policies andprocedures including but not limited to submission of midterm andfinal grades, keeping office hours, and decisions regardinginstructional matters such as texts, assignments, gradingstandards, and adhering to provisions of the OCCFA contract,
• Participation and compliance with departmental decisionsregarding instructional matters such as texts, assignments, andgrading standards,
• Participation in department and/or institutional assessments ofstudent learning,
• Participation in department and/or institutional surveys,
• Participation on appropriate standing and/or ad hoc committeeswithin the position 's assigned department and division,
• Participation in college-wide activities, such as acollege-wide committee or task force, faculty governance,accreditation studies, student activities/clubs/organizations,planning and/or implementation of college-wide professionaldevelopment activities, college-related external professionalmeetings and activities, planning and/or implementation ofcollege-related social or fund-raising functions, and othercollege-related community activities mutually agreed upon by theDean and the faculty member,
• Compliance with institutional proceduresOperation andtroubleshooting of instruments including UV-vis spectrometer,infrared spectrometer, high-pressure liquid chromatograph, and gaschromatograph.
• Compliance with safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct laboratory sessions where safety is paramount byholding students accountable for following safety policies andprocedures and by teaching safe laboratory techniques.

Requirements

We are seeking candidates to teach courses in general chemistry,organic chemistry and biochemistry.

Qualifications Unique to these Positions

Candidates with a degree in organic chemistry or biochemistry arepreferred.

General Chemistry

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or Master'sdegree with at least 18 graduate hours in chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications

• College teaching experience
• Doctoral degree in chemistry or chemistry education with atleast 18 graduate hours in chemistry

Organic Chemistry

Minimum Qualifications

• Masters degree in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry orMaster's degree with 18 graduate hours in organic chemistry

Preferred Qualifications

• College teaching experience
• Doctoral degree in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry orrelated field with 18 graduate hours in organic chemistry.

Biochemistry

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, orMaster's degree with 18 graduate hours in biochemistry

Preferred Qualifications

• College teaching experience
• Doctoral degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biology

Additional Information

The full time faculty member's workload during the nine monthacademic year is 30 lecture hour equivalents (LHEs). The averageteaching load is 15 LHEs in the Fall and Spring semesters. Fulltime faculty may teach a maximum of 60% of their loadasynchronously.

The academic calendar consists of 169 working days; instructionaldays total 153 of the working days within the academic calendar.Four days are used for instruction, final student evaluations, orcourse culminating activities. Two days are designated for grading,and one day is associated with commencement which is assigned on athree year rotation. The remaining nine days are designated forprofessional development, course preparation, student orientation,assessment, advising, registration, and/or college or departmentalactivities.

The faculty member is expected to have a minimum of 10 regularoffice hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters.

The College expects full time faculty to participate inprofessional development activities and to engage in institutionaland departmental service.

Compensation

The hiring range for full time faculty is based on a 9 month, nooverload contract. Additional pay is received for teachingoverloads and summer assignments. The minimum salary is $63,268 andthe maximum is $87,218.

Appointment to a faculty position is contingent upon approval by the College's Board of Trustees.

The anticipated start date for this position is Fall2027.

Out-of-State Employment Defined

Oakton College's primary location of operation is in the state ofIllinois. An "out-of-state employee" is defined as an employee ofOakton College whose primary work location is outside of the stateof Illinois. State taxes, employment tax, and worker's compensationprovisions vary from state to state and require payroll compliancewith these various rules.

Allowable States for Out-of-State Employment

All employees must maintain their primary residence in Illinois,Indiana, or a reciprocal state with Illinois. Reciprocal statesinclude Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Illinois has taxagreements with these reciprocal states. Employees may have theirprimary residence in Indiana since Indiana is adjacent toIllinois.
