Varsity Tutors Live Learning Platform connects thousands of students nationwide with online Chemistry 2 tutors. As an independent contractor, you set your own schedule, earn competitive rates, and make a real impact on students' understanding from the comfort of your home.

Earn up to $40/hour, get paid up to twice per week, and tutor remotely using our Live Learning Platform. We handle logistics while you invoice for sessions, and AI Copilot assists you to prep and engage students.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, aqueous equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, coordination chemistry, and organic chemistry fundamentals.
• Skilled at breaking down ICE table calculations, titration curve analysis, and electrochemical cell problems.
• Familiar with second-semester general chemistry curricula and common challenges; adapts instruction accordingly.
• Strong communication and ability to tailor teaching to individual learning needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1-on-1 online tutoring to individual students.
• Accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.

What We Look For In a Chemistry 2 Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, aqueous equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, coordination chemistry, and organic chemistry fundamentals. Ability to explain reaction rate laws, Le Chatelier principle, buffer calculations, entropy and free energy, and galvanic cell potentials while preparing students for advanced chemistry and professional school entrance examinations.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at breaking down ICE table calculations, titration curve analysis, and electrochemical cell problems. Guides students through determining reaction orders, calculating pH of buffer solutions, predicting spontaneity using Gibbs free energy, and balancing redox reactions. Emphasizes connecting mathematical calculations to chemical intuition and applies concepts to industrial chemistry, pharmacology, and environmental remediation.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with second-semester general chemistry curricula and common challenges such as equilibrium constant expressions, buffer capacity calculations, and understanding entropy conceptually. Adapts instruction using ICE table frameworks, visual titration simulations, and systematic problem-solving approaches to support students preparing for organic chemistry, biochemistry, or standardized science examinations.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
