Job summary

JMJ PHILLIP is seeking an experienced Chemist / Production Manager to oversee laboratory operations and manufacturing processes in Greenwich, CT. The role combines technical chemistry leadership with production management to drive product quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

You will lead cross-functional teams, develop schedules, monitor performance, and champion continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflows and reduce costs in a safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Several years of experience in chemical manufacturing, laboratory operations, or production management.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical processing, laboratory procedures, and quality systems.
  • Experience with production planning, process optimization, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing or ERP software.
  • Thorough understanding of workplace safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and optimization of new and existing products.
  • Analyze test results and recommend process or formulation improvements.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and technical records.
  • Ensure products meet internal quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Implement quality control procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable industry regulations and best practices.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop laboratory and production personnel.
  • Establish performance goals and provide coaching and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and results-oriented work environment.
  • Coordinate activities across production, quality, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
  • Lead Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Optimize production workflows and reduce operational costs.
  • Support equipment upgrades and process automation projects.
  • Monitor raw material usage and inventory levels.
  • Coordinate purchasing requirements with supply chain and procurement teams.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and usage of chemicals and production materials.
  • Support accurate production planning and inventory control.

Position Responsibilities

  • Strong knowledge of chemical processing, laboratory procedures, and quality systems.
