Job summary

Indorama Ventures in Port Neches, TX is seeking a Chemist summer intern who is currently enrolled full-time in a BS Chemistry program. Interns will support lab activities, work under a chemist mentor, and present a final project to leadership.

Ideal candidates maintain a 3.0 GPA, are authorized to work in the U.S., and demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills. The program runs May–August with potential overtime and safety training requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to assigned area(s) under supervision.
• Assist chemists in project and day-to-day lab work.
• Present a project assignment to Site Leadership Team at internship end.
• Follow safety, GMP and environmental with supervision and complete required trainings.

Job Description

Our Chemist summer intern program is tailored to individuals who are currently enrolled full-time students at an accredited four-year college or university. The internships run from May to August - dependent on the school calendar. The goal of the Indorama Intern Program is to provide a structured program that will equip interns with the skills and experience to help prepare for a successful career. Under close supervision, intern will be responsible for providing technical support to assigned area(s). After initial orientation, intern will be assigned to the Lab under the direction of a Chemist mentor.

What will be expected from you?

• At the end of the internship, the intern is required to give a project assignments presentation to the Site Leadership Team.
• Support chemists in performance of assignments, both project and day-to-day workings of the lab
• Provide status updates to mentor/engineer on project assignments.
• Under management supervision, ensure that activities are carried out to comply with the integrated management system, as applicable (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality and responsible care requirements).
• Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed. If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.
• Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.
• Assists other employees in accomplishments of Indorama company goals. Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
• Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company. Participates in and completes company required training programs.

What are we looking for in the Ideal Candidate?

• Must be a full‑time college student at the Junior or Senior level by the end of Spring 2025, currently enrolled at an accredited university seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
• 3.0 GPA or higher required
• Must be authorized to work in U.S.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card. Please visit https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic for information on TWIC.
• Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email and Microsoft Office programs.
• Knowledge of the basic principles and methods used in chemical plant manufacturing and analyses.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
• Able to solve complex problems and identify the appropriate resources.
• Able to build relationships across all organizational lines.
• Able to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
