Job summary

SGS is seeking a seasoned Laboratory Analyst to lead operational analysis of crude oil, fuels, and petrochemicals, performing bench work and GC analyses in a regulated environment. The candidate will mentor laboratory technicians, maintain safety/reporting standards, and ensure accurate method execution with attention to detail under pressure.

Excellent communication and documentation skills are essential as is the ability to work across teams to deliver reliable results for quality and safety

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or related sciences preferred (Required).
  • 7+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab (Required).
  • 1+ year of protocol and report writing experience (Required).
  • Advanced knowledge of routine and non-routine testing methods (Required).
  • Bachelor degree in Chemistry and related disciplines acceptable (Required).

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory analysis on crude oil, fuels, petrochemicals, LPG/LNG gases; bench work.
  • Operate gas chromatographs and other laboratory equipment with accuracy.
  • Guide Laboratory Technicians and contribute to training and supervisory duties.
  • Maintain current knowledge of laboratory safety and reporting techniques.
  • Ensure data integrity, method compliance, and timely reporting under SGS standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and support department goals.

Job Description

Summary

Responsible for analysis and reporting of various products such as crude oil, fuel oils, middle distillates, petroleum and petrochemicals, LPG & LNG gases, etc.

Job Functions
  • Responsible for all Laboratory analysis (hands-on working on the Bench).
  • Understand and keep current with all Laboratory safety and reporting techniques.
  • Provide guidance to Laboratory Technicians to maintain proper level of training among Laboratory personnel, which can include supervisory duties.
  • Understand and keep current with all Laboratory analysis methods.
  • Responsible for the operation of Gas Chromatograph and other Laboratory equipment.
  • Position requires a dependable and reliable individual; whose daily presence adds to the success of the Department.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or related sciences preferred (Required)
  • 5+ years of experience in a regulated commercial labenvironment (Required)
  • 1+ year of protocol and report writing experience (Required)
  • Advanced knowledge of routine & non-routine testing methods
    OR Bachelor Degree in Chemistry and similar disciplines (Required)
  • 7+ years of experience in laboratory (Required)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in ASTM standards. (Required)
  • Must be able to work with all chemical, petrochemical and petroleum products. (Required)
  • Must be able to differentiate between colors accurately by sight. (Required)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups both within the organization. (Required)
  • Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources into solutions and work effectively under pressure while acting accordingly to the SGS standards of ethics and integrity. (Required)
  • High level of accuracy is required, with special attention to details. (Required)
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, while balancing numerous projects concurrently with different deadlines. (Required)
