Job summary

Abbott in Scarborough, Maine seeks a Chemist I to produce material for use in immunology-based chromatography and enzyme tests. You will support the production schedule and work in a team to coordinate manufacturing efforts according to a set production plan.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or life sciences, hands-on lab skills (pipetting, HPLC, spectrophotometry, gel electrophoresis/SDS-PAGE, ELISA), and the ability to follow SOPs and maintain GMP/GLP standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemistry or life sciences.
• Experience with pipetting, spectrophotometry, HPLC, pH meters.
• Gels (Gel Electrophoresis or SDS-PAGE) and ELISA assays experience.
• Team-based and independent work ability with moderate supervision.
• Proficient with spreadsheets, databases and document software.

Responsibilities

• Produce material for immunology-based chromatography and enzyme tests.
• Maintain and support the production schedule.

• Follow SOPs and safety procedures.
• Perform in-process QC testing and support GMP/GLP.
• Develop protocols for product improvement and bioreagents.

Job description

Title: Chemist I

Location: Scarborough, Maine

Duration: 6+ months

Responsibilities:

• In this role you will produce material for use in immunology-based chromatography and enzyme tests.
• Maintains and supports the production schedule
• Investigates problem areas and areas of desirable improvement
• Undertakes new procedures and observes proper safety precautions
• Responsible for in-process QC testing of manufacturing material as it relates to qualifications, quality inspections and titration.
• Maintains quality systems and proper GMP/GLP
• Creates and follows protocols designed around product improvement
• Responsible for making critical and non-critical bioreagents for use in product and manufacturing processes using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Works in a team setting and coordinates manufacturing efforts based upon a set production schedule and maintaining the raw bioreagent supply as needed to support this schedule.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Pipette

• Gel Electrophoresis o SDS Page
• ELISA assays
• Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
• Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, manufacturing, and word processing software.
