Eurofins Scientific is seeking a Chemist for the Environment Testing – Metals discipline on the 2nd shift. The role involves preparing and analyzing environmental samples using standard methods, validating data, and uploading results to the LIMS.

Qualifications include a science degree or relevant lab experience, strong English proficiency, and US work authorization. A range of ICP-OES/ICP-MS techniques may be used, with comprehensive safety and QA practices in place.

  • Monitors refrigerator temperatures and maintains logs as required.

Chemist - Environment Testing - Metals- 2nd Shift

Position Summary:

The Chemist prepares and analyzes environmental samples using both standard and complex testing according to approved scientific methodology in compliance with Eurofins Environment Testing Quality Assurance programs and standard operating procedures. Validates and reviews data for accuracy through Level I reviews. Uploads laboratory data into LIMS system to generate data packages for delivery to clients. Must be knowledgeable of a broad range of laboratory testing equipment requiring the exercise of discretion and judgment in its operation. This position can be physical job that may require standing for long periods, working with organic solvents, laboratory glassware and specialized equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Must satisfy the requirements for essential duties and responsibilities of the Associate Chemist job description.

  • Performs routine lab tasks that provide experience and familiarization with methods, practices, and programs. These include:
    • Batching and prepping samples for analysis considering special and varied client and quality assurance requirements
    • Making reagents for sample analysis
    • Aliquots extracted samples to maximize laboratory productivity
    • Preparing appropriate standards to ensure compliant data
    • Operation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments
    • Determining appropriate routine and complex analysis methods for a wide variety of samples
      • Maintains logbooks and refrigerator temperature logs
  • Performs safety inspections in areas
  • Proficient, with IDOCs, assigned methods carried out in the area:
    • Performs Level I review of data produced to ensure accuracy.
    • Maintains other documentation as required
    • Uploads data into LIMS system for review
    • Monitors refrigerator temperatures
    • Responsible for performing job functions within Eurofins Environment Testing America environmental health and safety and quality assurance standards
    • Maintains housekeeping standards for work area

Follow and learn appropriate protocols in one or more of the following disciplines. This role will focus in metals.

  • Organic preparation
  • Metals preparation and analysis
  • Gas Chromatography
  • Mass Spectrometry
  • High Resolution preparation and analysis
  • Low Resolution preparation and analysis
  • Inventories and stocks laboratory supplies
  • Washes and inventories glassware
  • Writes / reviews client ready complex NCM’s
  • Purges analyzed samples
  • Assists in training new analysts on laboratory procedures
  • Assists in other areas of laboratory when needed

Additional duties as assigned.

Basic Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or BA in chemistry, biology, or other related field OR 3 years laboratory experience may substitute for degree.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship

Ideal Candidates will have:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related field
  • Some related experience with inductively coupled plasma techniques (ICP and ICP MS)/atomic absorption techniques
  • ICP-OES or ICP-MS experience preferred
  • Some familiarity with basic statistics and chemical math; problem solving ability, abilityto retain large amounts of information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Able to interpret written materials and communicate findings effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and propose practical solutions.
  • Applies critical thinking to evaluate options and make decisions.
  • Effective collaborator who contributes to team goals and supports department productivity goals
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effectively balances multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy.
  • Comfortable using mathematical formulas and tools to perform calculations and analyze data.
  • Consistently delivers high-quality work within established timelines and specifications.
  • Able to work independently, following written or verbal instructions with minimal oversight.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to coordinate tasks and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
