Job summary

Aquent is partnering with a leading global organization to hire a Chemist for a temporary role in Houston. You will perform routine and non-routine lab testing to ensure product quality and compliance, using FTIR and other analytical techniques.

You will review data, prepare certificates of analysis, and support investigations into OOS results. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in QA/analytical chemistry, strong data interpretation skills, and hands-on lab equipment experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience in quality assurance, quality control, or analytical chemistry.
  • Strong ability to interpret analytical data and recommend actions.
  • Hands-on experience operating basic laboratory equipment including FTIR, particle size analyzers, pour point and flash point testers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory testing to ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Conduct physico-chemical and analytical testing using FTIR, particle size analysis, pour point, flash point, and TGA.
  • Execute testing per ASTM, ISO, and internal procedures.
  • Review and interpret data to identify trends, deviations, and quality issues.
  • Prepare lab reports, certificates of analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Investigate out-of-specification results and support root cause analysis.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment through calibration, verification, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, technical, and customer service teams to resolve quality concerns.

What You Will Do
  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory testing to ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Conduct basic physico-chemical and analytical testing using, but not limited to: Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Particle Size Analysis (laser diffraction and/or sieve analysis), Pour Point Testing, Flash Point Testing, and Thermo-gravimetric analysis.
  • Execute testing in accordance with established ASTM, ISO, and internal laboratory procedures.
  • Review, analyze, and interpret test data to identify trends, deviations, and potential quality issues.
  • Prepare accurate laboratory reports, certificates of analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results and support root cause analysis activities.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment through calibration, verification, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, technical, and customer service teams to resolve quality-related concerns.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience in quality assurance, quality control, or analytical chemistry.
  • Strong chemistry acumen with the ability to interpret analytical data and recommend actions.
  • Hands‑on experience operating and troubleshooting basic laboratory equipment, including FTIR instrumentation, Particle size analyzers, Pour point testing equipment, and Flash point testing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of ASTM and laboratory quality systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, data integrity, and documentation practices.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with industry-specific specifications and testing methodologies.
  • Experience testing drilling fluids, industrial minerals, petroleum products, or specialty chemicals.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and laboratory best practices.
  • Experience participating in proficiency testing and method validation activities.
