Job summary

Aurolife in Durham, NC seeks a Chemist A to perform QC testing, assessing strength, identity and purity of samples. You will work with bench-level procedures, following established methods and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform sampling, physical, chemical tests and assays on raw materials, in-process, finished products and stability samples per USP or in-house methods.
• Plan and maintain inventory of test reagents and solutions.
• Plan and execute testing to meet established timelines; perform complex testing with supervisory direction.
• Record data and results according to procedures; document work clearly.
• Prepare/review Test Procedures, SOPs, and Protocols as assigned.
• Perform maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments with supervision.
• Conduct troubleshooting under supervision.
• Comply with regulatory and in-house requirements (cGMP, cGLP, safety).
• Review analytical documents as required.

Job Overview

Chemist A will perform a variety of QC testing to assess the strength, identity and purity of test samples and/or materials. The Chemist will work as a member of a team to effectively plan and conduct analytical testing using established (official and/or in‑house) procedures, performing 90%–100% of the work at the bench level.

Responsibilities

• Perform sampling, physical, chemical tests and assays on raw materials, active pharmaceutical ingredients, in‑process, finished and stability products using wet chemicals, physical and instrumental techniques (HPLC, GC, UV‑Vis, IR, PARTICLE SIZE ANALYZER, KF AUTO TITTERATOR, BULK DENSITY, and other routine QC instruments) as per USP monograph, in‑house or any other compendial monographs.
• Independently plan and maintain inventory of test reagents and solutions, ensuring supplies are ordered as needed.
• Plan and execute testing to meet established timelines; perform complex testing with supervisory direction.
• Record data and results in accordance with documentation procedures; document work clearly and perform tests accurately.
• Prepare and/or review Test Procedures, SOPs, and Protocols as assigned.
• Perform maintenance and calibrations of laboratory instruments/equipment with supervisory direction/training.
• Conduct troubleshooting and investigations under supervisor direction.
• Comply with all regulatory and in‑house requirements (including safety, housekeeping, laboratory chemical waste, cGMP, cGLP, documentation).
• Review analytical documents as required.

Qualifications – Skills & Requirements

• Minimum 2–3 years experience in pharmaceuticals and 1–2 years in analytical testing desirable.
• QC experience in generic pharmaceutical industries preferred.
• Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices and USP/ICH/FDA guidelines.
• Ability to learn quickly and make effective decisions.

Education & Experience

• Minimum degree: BS in a scientific field; BS in Chemistry preferred.

Compensation

USD $50,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year.

Physical Requirements

• Work in a temperature‑controlled office environment or travel by vehicle or commercial transportation.

• Travel for business purposes is required.
• Use of computer, phone, copier, and other office equipment during the course of the day.
