PLP in North Carolina seeks a chemist to plan, direct, and coordinate chemical analytical studies to develop materials and improve manufacturing processes. The role includes ISO lead assessor duties and ensuring environmental compliance.

You will formulate tests, support R&D and manufacturing, analyze failures, maintain ISO procedures, and provide technical reports and SDS updates in a regulated lab environment.

Job description

Plan, direct, and coordinate chemical analytical studies to develop new materials or improve on materials used in the course of manufacturing the company's products. Responsible for plant ISO lead assessor duties. Responsible for environmental compliance.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  1. Evaluate new materials or substitute raw materials from alternate vendors. Conduct critical research chemistries to develop and standardize materials. Produce new formulations for customer or in-house requests.
  2. Formulate standardized tests to analyze the quality of materials.
  3. Give technical support as required to Research & Development, Sales & Marketing, and Manufacturing. Analyze product failures as returned by customers. Assist in producing new products and prototype parts.
  4. Perform in-process analysis, adjustments, and final analysis for the Compounding area. Provide technical support as needed for gel and chemical problems in the Castings area.
  5. Perform testing or internal specifications, prepare technical data indicating the testing results.
  6. Issue certificate of analysis documentation.
  7. Update SDS documentation.
  8. Initiate changes to improve product stability, workplace safety, and product safety. Initiate changes to enhance quality, efficiency, and ease of manufacture.
  9. Prepare reports and recommendations as to suitability of materials researched and developed and the consistency of material quality supplied by vendors.
  10. Handle hazardous material in accordance with established regulations.
  11. Maintain ISO procedures and work instructions, records, files, and technical references. Assure all lab instruments are in proper repair and calibration. Keep well informed of new developments in the field of chemistry.
  12. Support & maintain facility's compliance with all applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations, including EPA & NCDEQ (North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality) requirements.
