Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group, an EPCm firm, seeks a Process and Instrumentation/Controls Engineer Intern/Co-op to support design projects. You will prepare drawings, calculations, and P&IDs, interfacing with other disciplines to deliver cohesive packages for our clients.

The role requires pursuing a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and strong communication skills; familiarity with Aspen, HYSYS, ChemCAD, AutoCAD is a plus; MS Office proficiency is expected.

  • Pursuing a BS in Chemical Engineering at a four-year accredited college or university.
  • Ability to work within diverse teams including Nexus, clients, and others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare drawings, calculations, and other deliverables for design projects under supervision.
  • Develop and maintain P&IDs, PFDs, and block and loop drawings.
  • Assist engineers with project activities as requested.

Job description

The Process and Instrumentation/Controls Engineer Intern or Co-op will work alongside other Process and Instrumentation/Controls Engineers to prepare drawings, calculations, and other deliverables for our clients' design projects. The position will also interface with team members in our other engineering disciplines to provide cohesive engineering packages to our clients.

  • Complete calculations of limited complexity, with supervision as needed; may include hydraulics, relief devices, equipment sizing, control valve, and flow meter sizing
  • Develop and maintain P&IDs, PFDs, and block and loop drawings
  • Assist experienced Process and Instrumentation/Controls Engineers with their activities as requested
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree (or equivalent education) in Chemical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Ability to work within diverse teams assembled from Nexus, clients, and others
  • Effective communication skills in order to convey ideas is a must
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and WordSeeks feedback to improve performance
  • Experience with Aspen, HYSYS, ChemCAD, AutoCAD, or other process modeling software a plus
  • Gain an understanding of the business and engineering work flow in a consulting firm
  • Expand capabilities with process modeling software such as Aspen, HYSYS, or others
  • Assist with equipment and instrument specifications
  • Prepare instrument specifications and request quotes from vendors
  • Learn about process safety and its importance in the design and operation of our clients' facilities
  • Exposure to and application of industry codes related to the process and instrumentation/controls discipline
