The Loading Technician position is an entry level role that supports the operations of the New Johnsonville facility through daily loading/unloading operations and activities in coordination with the Logistics Supervisor and Lead Technicians.
Maintains protection of the environment, and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority. Supports the safety process systems through participation in planned inspections, job observations, near miss reporting, incident investigation, area audits, and other programs as required. Participates in daily operations meetings to communicate information related to safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost consciousness, reliability, and operations.
Obtains and maintains area qualifications for the truck and railcar loading/unloading areas, along with on-going training and requalification processes to support a knowledgeable and effective workforce. Performs loading/unloading tasks related to tanker trucks and railcars, including monitoring the loading/unloading stations for HESS and regulatory compliance, using standard operating procedures, safety policies, and related procedures and systems. Completes and submits all documentation related to the loading/unloading function as required, related to DOT regulations, standard operating procedures, safety policies, and job knowledge.
Conducts visual and auditory inspection of all assigned equipment on equipment route procedures and the assigned unit. Supports the sludge filter press area by performing routine job task requirements at the sludge filter press as required. Responsible for monitoring, responding to, and documenting key performance measures and making recommendations for adjustments, as needed, based on training and background.
Reports any concerns to the Logistics Supervisor, Lead Technicians and/or Process Supervisors. Generates work requests to address identified plant issues utilizing the current computer systems. Provides attention to detail, and dedication to work, in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as a high quality product. Performs regular housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe work area. Complies with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
Maintains training and responsibilities in conjunction with Emergency Response Team duties. Assists in procedure reviews, Management of Changes (MOC’s) reviews, and associated training. Supports and fulfills the requirements of the plant’s Food Safety program and ISO Quality System. Assists with special projects as requested and work schedules allow. Completes any additional responsibilities assigned by Plant Management.
Responsible for collecting, maintaining, and analyzing process data logs, log books, samples, and related documentation and processes, and for providing routine process status updates and progress reports through morning meetings and other established communication channels. Responsible for monitoring remote field DCS screens, and taking readings, as well as monitoring and responding to alarms in coordination with DCS Board Technicians.
Prepares loading area and sludge area equipment for maintenance repair. Adheres to policies for proper lock out and servicing of equipment. Coordinates maintenance activities in the field in areas of responsibility, at the equipment, to ensure clear communications related to repairs needed. Conducts full shift relief through communications with the operator being relieved regarding HESS information, data logs, previous shift events, current unit status, etc.
High School diploma or completed GED. Process Technology Degree OR minimum of 2 years relevant work experience (e.g. production, loading, or unit maintenance) in a chemical plant or manufacturing environment. Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work a rotating shift; weekends; holidays; overtime; and respond to callouts. Ability and willingness to serve as member of Emergency Response Team. Ability to read, write and speak in English. Proficient in Microsoft applications Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team. Must possess valid driver’s license. Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
