Job summary

KIK Consumer Products is seeking a Chemical Operator 3 / Tank Farm Operator in Ludlow, MA to safely oversee chlorine unloading, storage, and handling. You will ensure regulatory compliance, manage inventory, and support production with a strong emphasis on safety, logs, and emergency response.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED plus 3+ years in chemical manufacturing or tank farm operations, and forklift experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing, tank farm operations, or hazardous material handling.
• Massachusetts Class 2 Wastewater Treatment License preferred but not required; willing to obtain after hire.
• Direct experience with chlorine or other hazardous chemicals strongly preferred.
• Experience using a sit-down forklift required to move chemical drums.
• Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Programs (RMP).
• Familiarity with railcar and tanker offloading systems.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols, emergency response, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to work in a high-hazard, fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform safe offloading of chlorine from railcars, tankers, or other delivery systems following procedures.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, DHS, and other regulations, including PSM and RMP.
• Oversee daily tank farm activities including storage, transfer, and inventory of chlorine and related chemicals.
• Serve as first responder for chlorine incidents and execute emergency procedures.
• Coordinate inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs of tanks and piping for safe operations.
• Track and reconcile chlorine inventory; complete logs, manifests, and inspection reports.
• Collect and test chemical and wastewater samples; document results and report non-conformities.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability of chlorine handling and tank farm operations.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance, EHS, and logistics to ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Supervise contractors ensuring site safety requirements.

Your Role at KIK

The Chemical Operator 3 or Tank Farm Operator is responsible for safely overseeing and executing all chlorine unloading, storage, and handling operations within the tank farm. This role ensures strict compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations while maintaining efficient material flow to support production.

This is a 1st shift position with shift hours being Monday-Thursday 6:00am-4:00pm with overtime on Fridays as needed. The pay range for this role is $25.00-$30.00 per hour, dependent upon experience and Massachusetts Water Treatment Licensing. This facility is located in Ludlow, MA 01056.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Perform the safe offloading of chlorine from railcars, tankers, or other delivery systems, ensuring adherence to all established procedures and safety protocols.
• Maintain full compliance with OSHA, EPA, DHS, and other applicable regulations, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements. Enforce strict adherence to PPE and safety procedures.
• Oversee daily tank farm activities including storage, transfer, and inventory management of chlorine and related chemicals.
• Serve as a first responder for chlorine-related incidents, ensuring proper execution of emergency procedures, leak response, and evacuation protocols.
• Coordinate inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs of tanks, piping, valves, scrubbers, and monitoring systems to ensure safe and reliable operations.
• Track and reconcile chlorine inventory levels. Ensure accurate completion of logs, manifests, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
• Collect and test chemical and wastewater samples using established procedures to verify pH, strength, specific gravity, and other required specifications, accurately documenting results and reporting materials that do not meet standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability of chlorine handling and tank farm operations.
• Work closely with production, maintenance, EHS, and logistics teams to ensure uninterrupted operations and alignment on priorities.
• Supervise contractors performing work in the tank farm area, ensuring compliance with site safety requirements.

What You’ll Bring

• 3 or more years of experience in chemical manufacturing, tank farm operations, or hazardous material handling
• Massachusetts Class 2 Wastewater Treatment License preferred but not required; candidates must be willing to complete the required training and obtain the license after hire.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs (bags, pails, hoses) with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Frequent bending, climbing stairs or ladders to access tanks and platforms, reaching, and handling hoses and connections.
• Comfortable working in an industrial chemical environment with exposure to fumes, odors, noise, and varying temperatures (indoor and outdoor areas) while wearing required PPE (respirators, goggles, gloves, protective clothing).
