Job summary

Momentive in Texas City seeks a Chemical Operator to ensure safe transfer of chemicals and monitoring of control panels per process instructions. You will load and unload materials, record actions, and obtain samples for lab analysis while following safety and environmental controls.

You will handle drums, operate equipment to control reactions, monitor systems, and participate in plant safety programs. Requires reading comprehension, routine reporting, and the ability to work independently

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Able to receive detailed instructions by telephone and/or handheld radio.

Job description

Job Title:Chemical OperatorSummary:In this role you will be responsible for the proper transfer of chemicals/materials within the plant and monitoring control panel functions per operating instructions specific to the process while ensuring safety and environmental controls.Responsibilities Include:Loading and unloading of final product, raw materials and waste streams via tank truck, drums, sacks or other types of containersRecords operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator’s logbook, per procedure.Obtain material samples for laboratory analysis using proper safety measuresHandling of drums using drum dolly or forklifts.Moving of trailers safely with Yard Mule.Handling plant utilities, including, but not limited to Hot Oil System, Cooling Water Tower, Process Water, Chiller System, Nitrogen Tanks, Flare System,Furnaces and BoilersComplete understanding and demonstrated knowledge of all Safety and Emergency ProceduresMaintain efficient working knowledge of the plant’s shutdown and startup proceduresMonitor inventory of raw materials and ensure accurate recording all necessary data on transfersDismantle and clean filtering equipment, as needed per procedure.Understanding and the management of Environmental ProceduresGeneral housekeeping in process areas and operating areasWash and rinse reactorsRegulate the flow of steam, air or oilOperate equipment to adjust speed of chemical reactions or yieldsReport spills or dangerous conditionsDraw samples of productPatrol tanks and troughs to ensure they are not overflowing and enter in logbook.Use steam to defrost frozen valves per procedure.Operate and test towers, soap-spray vessels, storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors and driersEnsure chemicals are stored properly per procedure and SDSMust have taken and successfully passed the mPD Unit Tests and been signed off by Supervision.Must be able to LOTO per plant proceduresCommunicate safety concerns with management by participating in safety team meetings and other means (concern reports, etc.)Understand and execute life critical systems such as LOTO.Basic understanding of LEAN, 5S and GEMBAAll other duties as assignedEntry level rate for this position is: $32.73Qualifications:The following are required for the roleHigh school diploma or GEDAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to receive detailed instructions by telephone and/or handheld radio.Able to work independently and multi-task.The following are preferred for the role1-2 years' work experience in a manufacturing setting.What We Offer:The base salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography.
