Job summary

Solenis is seeking a Chemical Operator for our Fort Scott, KS site to safely prepare, weigh, charge, mix, and process raw materials per SOPs. You will ensure batches are made to specifications, operate equipment safely, and maintain accurate documentation in a fast-paced environment.

Located at Fort Scott, this role reports to the Plant Manager. Candidates should have GMP/ISO knowledge, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work rotating shifts and weekends.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Chemical Operator certification 1 & 2 or comparable technical training/experience in manufacturing.
• At least 5 years of experience working in a chemical or industrial manufacturing environment.
• Can be fully trained to operate all lines on the Production floor.
• Some Experience with PLC - controlled equipment, batch processing, or automated systems.
• Experience with GMP, ISO standards, Kosher, Halaal, and NSF Quality Standards.

Provides technical support to engineers to achieve improvements in cycle-time, yield, unit cost, quality, safety and compliance of production and operations processes | Monitors instruments and equipment and collects operating data, including calibration, inspection, testing and repair activities, to assist in making on-line adjustments to instruments, equipment or products | Analyzes and resolves malfunctions and deviations of instruments and control systems to identify and resolve problems | Conducts analyses and prepares reports using metrics from salvage tracking, trending, reporting and root-cause analyses | Maintains process designs to optimize process and facility use while conforming to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

POSITION SUMMARY

Chemical Operator is responsible for safely preparing, weighing, charging, mixing, and processing raw materials according to established procedures in a chemical manufacturing environment. This role ensures batches are mixed to specification, equipment is operated safely, documentation is accurate, and production targets are met. Chemical Operator follows strict safety, quality, and housekeeping standards and works closely with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams. To be successful in the role, Operator III needs to be safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast paced, process-driven environment. Located at our Fort Scott, KS site, Operator III reports to the Plant Manager with direction given by the Operator Lead.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

A Chemical Operator is responsible for but not limited to the following:

Batch Preparation & Mixing Operations

• Independently measures, stages, and charges raw materials, chemicals, and additives according to batch sheets, formulas, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all Production lines.
• Operates mixers, blenders, reactors, pumps, scales, and related processing equipment.
• Monitors and adjusts mixing parameters (speed, temperature, time, viscosity, pH, etc.) to meet product specifications.
• Records process information and maintain accurate batch documentation.

Equipment Operation & Monitoring

• Starts, operates, monitors, and shuts down equipment safely in accordance with training and established procedures.
• Inspects equipment for abnormalities and takes care of any Maintenance issues.
• Performs basic equipment cleaning and changeover tasks as required.
• Follows lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when necessary.

Safety, Health & Environmental Compliance

• Follows all plant safety rules, PPE requirements, chemical handling procedures, and environmental guidelines.
• Handles hazardous materials in accordance with SDS requirements and training.
• Participates in safety meetings, inspections, and incident reporting.
• Maintains a clean, organized workspace using 5S and housekeeping standards.

Quality Control & Documentation

• Performs inprocess checks (temperature, appearance, viscosity, pH, weight, etc.) to confirm batches meet specifications.
• Collects and labels samples and does quality testing as needed.
• Documents all required production information accurately and completely.
• Notifies the Lead or Quality Manager immediately of deviations or irregularities.

• Physical requirements
  • Ability to remain stationary, move, climb stairs and ladders for extended periods during 8-10 hour shifts
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs (with assistance for heavier loads)
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and manual valve operation requiring manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work in elevated areas, confined spaces, and on grated platforms
  • Sufficient vision, hearing, and color recognition to read instruments, respond to alarms, and identify hazards
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including chemicalresistant clothing and respiratory protection, for extended periods
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, and outdoor environments with exposure to chemicals and odors
  • Physical stamina to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency situations
  • Unable to wear contact lenses

The expected compensation range for this position is between $43,600.00 and $63,943.00 plus discretionary bonuses. The exact compensation may vary based on your skills, experience and other factors permitted by law.
