The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Oberlin College invites applications for Teaching Assistants for Spring 2027 to support CHEM 254 lab sections. Enrolled students with a passing grade in CHEM 254 are preferred but not required.

TAs will deepen their understanding of the material, build professional relationships with new students, and develop their teaching skills. The role entails a 5–7 hour/week commitment with weekly TA meetings.

Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for Teaching Assistants (TAs) for Spring 2027. There are openings for assisting CHEM 254 lab sections. Applicants must be pursuing an interest in the sciences in order to be considered (pursuing a major in chemistry or biochemistry is preferred, but not required).

Chemistry & Biochemistry TAs will get the opportunity to develop their understanding of the materials at hand, gain further knowledge of topics that they previously learned, develop a professional relationship with new students, and develop their skills as educators.

Responsibilities

5-7 hour/week commitment.

• Prior knowledge and reasonable mastery of CHEM 254 material;
• Availability to attend TA meetings on a weekly basis;
• Assisting students in lab with relevant techniques and processes;
• Assisting with the preparation of laboratory reagents and supplies.

Qualifications

You must be an enrolled student at Oberlin College & Conservatory to qualify. In order to be considered, applicants must have earned a passing grade in CHEM 254.

$13.00-$13.75 depending on prior TA work experience in the department.
