Job summary

The Valley Hospital-Paramus is seeking a Chef Supervisor to oversee daily production and sanitation, working with the Manager, Executive Chef to train staff and coordinate VIP catering and employee events.

You will ensure quality food production, portion control, and standard recipes, manage ordering of daily supplies, and adapt to changing departmental needs while maintaining compliance with health codes and mission alignment with Valley Health System.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; ServSafe certification preferred.
• 3–5 years experience preparing meals in a supervisory role preferred.
• Must be able to use ovens, steam kettles, groen pan, slicing machine, chopper and other cooking equipment.
• Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities and follow recipes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily production and sanitation of the kitchen.
• Assist training and development of staff with the Manager, Executive Chef.
• Coordinate catering of VIP functions and employee events when necessary.
• Ensure quality food production, sanitation, portion control, and adherence to standardized recipes.
• Order food supplies daily and manage inventory as needed.
• Take supervisory responsibility in the Manager, Executive Chef's absence and after hours when required.

POSITION SUMMARY

POSITION SUMMARY: The Chef Supervisor works in conjunction with the Manager, Executive Chef assuming supervisory responsibilities of the daily production and sanitation of the kitchen. Assists the Manager, Executive Chef in the training and development of staff. Completes catering of VIP functions and employee special events when necessary. Maintains responsibility for the preparation of all foods, constantly striving to improve food and service by maintaining high standards regarding quality food production, sanitation, and portion control using standardized recipes. Maintains responsibility for using appropriate quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements. Utilizes pre-preparation and batch cooking techniques. Orders food supplies on a daily basis when needed. Assumes Manager, Executive Chef`s supervisory responsibility on his/her scheduled days off and in his/her absence. Available to work beyond normal working hours, weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary, etc.; must stay abreast of current health and sanitary codes. Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission statement of Valley Hospital.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent required. Secondary education in cooking/food preparation preferred. ServSafe certification

EXPERIENCE

3-5 years experience preparing meals in a supervisory role preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Must be able to use ovens, steam kettles, groen pan, slicing machine, chopper and other cooking equipment. Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities ensuring optimal quality at point of service. Must be able to cook ala carte style. Must be able to follow recipes. Must maintain care and use of supplies and equipment. Follows all industry and regulatory agency procedures and requirements. Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Must function independently, have flexibility and personal integrity. Good communication and interaction skills. Must demonstrate emotional stability and be able to relate to the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the organization including patients, family members, staff, visitors, etc. Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details. Must be able to competently function under pressure and with interruptions. Must maintain composure during stressful situations and changing work environment related to changing Department needs. Ability to utilize effective time management to set priorities, effectively problem solve and perform related responsibilities.
