Job summary

The School District of Lee County East Lee County High - Lehigh Acres, Florida is seeking a Cheerleading Sponsor (Varsity) for a full-time position at East Lee County High. The sponsor will plan practices, develop strategies, and mentor student-athletes while coordinating with staff and families.

Minimum qualifications include a Florida teaching certificate or athletic coaching certificate, FHSAA certification, and First Aid/CPR/AED.

Qualifications

• High school or competitive youth level coaching experience.
• Valid Florida teaching certificate or valid Department of Education athletic coaching certificate.
• Valid FHSAA certification.
• Valid Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and conduct regular practice sessions.
• Develop and implement game strategies and tactics.
• Teach fundamental skills, techniques, and sports rules to student-athletes.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and school-sponsored trips.
• Monitor academic progress and support students in balancing athletics and academics.
• Promote discipline, responsibility, and good sportsmanship among players.
• Ensure compliance with school, district, and state athletic regulations.
• Manage and maintain team equipment and uniforms.
• Collaborate with the athletic director on scheduling, budget, and facility use.
• Maintain open communication with parents and guardians.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to student-athletes on personal development and college opportunities.
• Enforce all school policies and codes of conduct.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of the sport’s rules, techniques, and safety practices.
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Ability to collaborate with school staff, parents, and community partners.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during school breaks as needed.
